Garden Work Day - November 10, 2018

Calling all green-thumbs, and those who enjoy playing in the dirt while helping your school and community! Help your Pu'u Kukui Elementary School Garden grow and thrive!

Team 1: Painting Group
  • Adding a fresh new coat of paint/touch up to existing raised beds
  • Painting and lettering new fruit and veggie signs for garden education purposes
  • Repairing paint signs that need replacement wood and hanging

Team 2: Compost Group - 3 year old compost bins are ready for harvest!
  • Harvesting and sifting freshly created compost humus (soil)
  • Cleaning weeds and big organic matter from area and bring it to the Green Waste container located in the parking lot via wheel barrow
  • Adding compost humus to needed planting spaces

Team 3: Garden Maintenance Group
  • Creating new planting spaces for students to use later
  • Weeding, watering existing panting spaces and plants

Please note:
  • Adult volunteers are especially needed. Student volunteers are welcome to help with an accompanying adult
  • Wear clothes that you don't mind getting some paint and dirt on, closed toe shoes, a hat if needed for sun protection, and a water bottle
  • Water and light snacks will be provided :)

As a BIG MAHALO for all volunteers and the 'Ohana that will come to play in the sun, we will be giving away plant starts and/or seed packets to take home and help build your own growing gardens!

5th Annual Fun Run - November 2, 2018

Our 5th Annual Fun Run will be held this week (November 2, 2018). The Fun run is one of the PTSA's largest fundraising events for the year. Money raised helps to provide important programs, activities, supplies and special requests that benefit our students, their teachers, and students' families. If you are interested in volunteering to help with the Fun Run, please email: puukukuiptsa@gmail.com.

It's going to be a busy week. Here's what's on our schedule:
  • 10/22/18 - 10/26/18 - Parent Teacher conferences - school will be dismissed at 12:30 during this week so that teachers and parents can have time to conference
  • 10/22/18 - Fun run envelopes need to be turned in. Our Fun Run will be on November 2nd.
  • 10/24/18 -10/25/18 - Picture taking days - Envelopes have been sent home. Please make sure that you have an envelope if you'd like pictures. We also need permission to put your child's picture in the yearbook. If you haven't returned your permission forms, your child's teacher will have one for you to sign during your parent teacher conference.
  • 10/24/18 - Unity Day (wear orange). Orange bracelets will be given out to students to support this DOE initiative. If you have picture taking scheduled for this day, you can bring something orange and change into it if you'd like to after your picture has been taken.
  • 10/24/18 - Frank DeLima - assemblies will be held in the cafeteria during the school day
  • 10/24/18 - Math night in the cafeteria 6-7 pm - Mrs. Yoshida (our Math Coordinator), Mrs. Flight (our Curriculum Coordinator) and Dr. Perez (4th grade H203 teacher) will be sharing ideas for how parents can support students in Math at home.
  • 10/25/18 - Panda Express PTSA fundraiser

We hope you all had a restful Fall Break and are ready to come back to school. Lots of things are happening next week:
  • Fun Run envelopes will go home this week in preparation for our November 2nd Fun Run. They are due back on October 22nd.
  • Parent Teacher Conferences are just around the corner. The week of October 22-26th will be Parent Teacher Conference week and school will be dismissed each day at 12:30 p.m. for conferences.
  • Unity Day - October 24th - wear orange to show unity. 
  • Student pictures will be taken on October 24th and 25th. Be sure to bring back your envelope if you want to order pictures.
  • There will be a Math Night on October 24th from 6-7 pm in the cafeteria.
  • Thursday, October 25th will be a Panda Express fundraiser for the PTSA.
